A how-to guide on using and searching the New PubMed

Exporting References

Are you interested in learning how to use a citation management tool? Learn more about EndNote here. Or learn more about Zotero here.

PubMed has the capability of exporting references into programs such as EndNote and Zotero. The file format is .nbib

You can export citations one at a time, or you can export them in large batches. Below is an overview of how to export references from PubMed.

Exporting a Single Reference

  1. Click on the article citation that you'd like to export. (see our helpful guides on how to use Endnote and Zotero to manage your citations!).

  2. On the right hand side click on Cite

  3. Select Download .nbib

  4. Next, click "Create file"

  5. A .nbib file will download to your downloads folder or may appear at the bottom of you browser.
