Zoom: Best Practices

Best Practices for Using Zoom

The following includes several hints and suggestions for successfully using Zoom

Getting Started

  • Practice a meeting. Try starting a meeting just to familiarize yourself with the tools available for you to use.

Audio & Video

  • Before attending a meeting test your audio through Zoom.
  • If you are not currently presenting during a meeting, click the microphone icon to mute. Open microphones can often distract from presentations.
  • Remember when entering a meeting the default option in Zoom (unless changed)  is for your microphone to be on.

Meeting Communications

  • The Raise Hand option allows participants to notify the presenter of a question without interrupting the presentation.
  • The Chat feature allows participants to communicate and share files during the meeting.
  • The Chat feature allows users to privately communicate with other participants or with everyone in the meeting, be sure to verify who you are chatting with before sending a message.

Zoom Security

  • Keep Meeting URLs Private
  • Keep Meeting Passwords On
  • Lock Your Meetings
  • Turn-off File Transfer
